After graduating with a Fine Art degree from Wolverhampton Polytechnic in 1978, Mike Bliss and Andy Plant set up Woody Enterprises as a flight of fancy.

Early products included wooden postcards, wooden ties and clocks made of toast (soaked in resin to prevent mould...). After touring the country with a handmade wooden suitcase in the shape of a man full of products to sell, and attending Harrogate gift show, the business soon gathered pace.

Andy left in 1982 to pursue new ventures and Mike's then girlfriend (now wife), Gabrielle, joined the company. Together, they've built the business into what you see today — the culmination of nearly 50 years' passion for design excellence, and of experience making pieces people cherish for years to come.

Alongside designing our own signature collections — from Flower Lights to Fantastical Fish, Creatures and Insalata serveware — we're proud to have collaborated with some of Britain's best-loved personalities, institutions and designers, from Rick Stein and Dame Prue Leith to Nigella Lawson, Sebastian Conran, Transport for London, London Zoo and many more.
