We thought you might like to know the back story behind the Flower Lights so we are going to take you on a little trip down memory lane!
Mike left art college with a degree in Fine Art but realised pretty quickly he would struggle to make a living as an artist. So, with his friend from college Andy Plant, started a business called Woody Enterprises in a small workshop in Birmingham making wooden clocks, plywood postcards, toast clocks, Charles & Diana waving cut outs, Margaret Thatcher loo roll holders and even flexible wooden ties!
After a couple of years Andy departed to concentrate on more sculptural one-off projects and Mike started designing more ambitious products like large station clocks, radios, televisions and of course, the Flower Lights. Below are a few photos from our archive and Mike’s original sketches from 1983 where the idea for the Flower Lights was born. Forty plus years on he was determined to revive these much loved lights and after a lot of hard work learning all the new regulations about lighting and finding a factory who could make them exactly like the originals here they are 😊
